Twin River Outfitters is opening its' newest river front campground just below the Horseshoe Bend public boat landing 8.5 river miles upstream of our Buchanan shop. The Horseshoe Bend site allows for only paddle in access. All campsites are numbered and include a fire ring, picnic table, parking area, and level tent pad. Portable toilets and a dumpster are conveniently located in the center of each campground. Gala Primitive River Front Campground is located about 1/2 mile from the Gala boat landing just off State Route 220. It is situated about 25 miles upstream of our Buchanan canoe livery location near river mile marker 51. This campground can accommodate both paddle in and drive in campers. It is about a 25 minute drive from our Buchanan livery location. Each of the 11 campsites are numbered and include a fire ring, picnic table, parking area, and level tent pad. Portable toilets and a dumpster are conveniently located in the center of the campground. There is no power, or water at any of the sites. Home of the legendary fairy stones, this park is well known for its 168-acre lake adjoining Philpott Reservoir. The park is just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Attractions include cabins, a campground, group camping, an equestrian campground, a conference center, hiking trails, lake swimming, rowboats, canoes, paddle boats, kayaks, picnicking and two playgrounds, including one in the water.
