In 1908, 7 clubs in Roanoke merged to form the Thursday Morning Music Club, The purpose, since its inception, has been to create a broader appreciation of music, develop individual music and dance talent, and to support musical entertainment in the Roanoke Valley. Today, we continue to invite talent recognized nationally and world wide as well as outstanding local artists to perform for us. We also give talented club members many opportunities to perform. The club has its own chorus which is available to sing for community functions; and, promotes young talent through its active Junior Clubs, scholarship programs and awards. The exhibitions are drawn from collections around the world, regional artists, and the museum's permanent collection of American art from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Studio School has brought quality art education to the Roanoke Valley since 1990.Adult classes continue to maintain a high quality of education, and the beginning student finds as much support and encouragement as does the professional artist attending for a "recharge" of inspiration or a new challenge. Group trips are organized to travel to painting locations, galleries and museums in Roanoke and other cities. Star City Mystery Dinner Theater opened its doors in October 2011. Since then, we’ve enjoyed providing this unique form of entertainment to the people of the Roanoke Valley. Currently we hold regular performances every other Saturday at the Holiday Inn – Tanglewood. Guests can enjoy a delicious four-course meal along with our five-act interactive mystery play. During breaks our actors will pour drinks, clear plates, and answer your questions (for a little bribe), all while in character. Music on the Corner is a concert series offered St. John’s for the Roanoke community. Programs are usually presented on Friday night, often beginning with a reception at 5:15 and followed at 6:00 by a concert. Usually lasting about an hour, the programs feature many talented local and regional musicians.
